Why can I not save this file off the net?

No problem saving it for me using Firefox.
Make sure you right click well on the image.

It saved this animated gif of a moving little square thing.
I assume its that you are wanting to save.

IE is trying to make me save it as a bmp and won't let me change the file type. Could one of you attach it to your message and I can take it from there, thanks.

I get that in IE as well (but not FF).

Edit: while I was wondering how this would help you saving the file, I noticed IE does save my attachment (from this site) as a gif. How does that work then

That's because you saved it as a .bmp file. .bmp files can't be animated, while GIFs can - essentially, they contain more than one image, and these are cycled.
