Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

As Amazon is said to be coming to the TiVo (first quarter of 2017??), a heads up to people that it's expected that the normal price of £79 will be reduced to £59 on Black Friday 25/11/16.

Also, I think it was in the 'Coming Soon' thread, Hugh pointed out that those with access to a .ac.uk email address can get it for £39.

I've been looking into this and found that the current offer is free for the first six months and then £39 a year.

Also, there are ways to get this without an .ac.uk email address:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature....cId=1000741813

It seems to me that this could also cover those aged 18 or over going to college on day release from work, night classes or as part of a training course for the unemployed etc

Those that actually work in universities will have a .ac.uk email address anyway!

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

That is the full amazon prime.

Just the prime video service can be had for £5.99 a month.

This works out at £71.88 a year. For those able to pay upfront and/or are classed as a student, it's cheaper to pay £59 or nothing for 6 months and then £39 a year for the full service!

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

That is of course true but some people might not want to pay up front or be bothered about the other things you get, such as the delivery thing or kindle book.

But just wanting the streaming service they can cancel at any time.

True, this route allows much greater flexibility.

The other routes can probably be provided more cheaply because they are guaranteed your custom for a whole year.

Interesting article here on efforts to tacle piracy, led here by Liberty Global. It also discusses the phasing out of Virgin's legacy boxes.

Not really new as studios have been watermarking for years but guess what? Never stopped piracy and neither will this.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

Amazon are now allowing none US members to sign up for Amazon prime USA, this will allow their original shows to be shown globaly, could this be the beginning of the end of regional restrictions? http://www.aftvnews.com/non-us-resid...zon-originals/

This is definitely the way it's going. With luck, this will put an end to certain companies buying up content and making it exclusive to their platforms.

Although the global players will still have exclusive programming, at least anyone should be able to access them without having to buy new equipment, such as a satellite dish.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

How does that work if you're already signed up to Prime in the UK?

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

I don't think this is relevant for us in the UK as we get all the Amazon (US) original shows already including exclusive ones like AMC's Into The Badlands.

What I'm waiting to see in the future is whether Netflix and Amazon ditch everything but their own made content as that would go against the original point of these streaming services.

The speed at which Netflix, in particular, is making their own shows (and films too now) they will soon have a archive of content to rival even the biggest Hollywood studios and tv producers.
