it depends on what you want to do?, if its for recording your car while outside your house for instance then you might be better getting something like the wireless video units and have the receiver end inside your house connected upto any mains recording device you care to use.

if your intent is to keep all the kit inside your car then a simple inverter/pc/usbHD might be better.....
put a wireless card in it too so you can vnc into it while parked up and in range.

the Efika PPC board might be an option for DIY when it becomes available to ordinary users but not right now perhaps (unless you want to develop your idea's and receave a developers unit).

Efika uses only a few amps, around 1 or 2 i seem to remember and so could be powered directly with a simple DC to DC converter, but an inverter is probably easyer for must people (although it will use up battery power quicker so a secondary battery is wise).
