Yet Academies were a Labour idea.
One local Academy has a reduced intake of pupils due to the autocratic way the head is running things, getting rid of governors and teachers and generally a "my way, or the highway" attitude.

And it's always been the case that anyone can have a bad idea. It's not unique to either Labour or the Conservatives.
But the key is to recognise when it's a bad idea, and find ways of making it better, instead of making things worse.

Re: Profits before Pupils
I was not surprised to read and see that a lot of these failed or failing academies are "faith schools".

Re: Profits before Pupils
I do not care who started Academy Schools but it is how can government departments be so crap at tracking where, how and who spends the money.
Anyway the Tory Governments policy is to back and increase Academy Schools.

Re: Profits before Pupils
LEA's had their authority over academies removed by the government..Which was a mistake because they were the best resource for keeping control over education in each county.

Academy schools are state-funded schools in England which are directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control

These academies also got their hands on the land, buildings and resources without ever paying back the taxpayers who provided the funds in the first place.

It is appalling how any excuse to educate on the cheap seems to be the government mantra, with Academies rubbing their hands in glee at the profits they can make.
