Those drives on their own are more than fast enough and as you have two im assuming its in a raid 0 config. I wouldnt say its a drive speed issue

300Mbit equates to about 37.5MB/s, call it 40MB/s for all I care. Even spinning rust should be capable of much greater than this, 50MB/s is bad even for them, a 5400RPM laptop drive can hit ~100MB/s so I don't think hard disk speed is the issue, not unless you've got other stuff going on as well in which case yes you will kill performance.

Re: Virgin Media Homeworks 300Mb
You would be surprised even my WD blue can cause the download to tank even when i'm not doing anything else, mostly to do with games unpacking as they download.

Re: Virgin Media Homeworks 300Mb
According to reviews and benchmarks my ssd's read and write speeds are over 400MB not mbit so they should have no problems.
Everytime i do speedtests on virgin servers i always hit 313mbit but other locations, game downloads/updates and other things bounce around and usually end up about 250mbit.
I'll try some more tests and see what i get but if i cant get 300mbit then i'll downgrade, it's not worth an extra £17 quid

Change the download serve to Manchester or Paris and see if that helps.

Re: Virgin Media Homeworks 300Mb
300MB Homeworks+ here.
Newsgroups throttled to 2MB/s
Just a headsup to people.
Looks like it is subject to the same Newsgroup & p2p throttling as the other high tiers.
I use my dedi in France and connect with identical settings to the same news server and it reaches 40MB/s so traffic shaping for certain.
Not really that bothered, just info for others really, it ends at midnight according to VMs webpage.

You should contact your news provider to see if there are any peering issues between them and VM, I get over 10 times that speed day or night and I'm only on the 200 meg connection

Re: Virgin Media Homeworks 300Mb
Just enquired about this, this evening after seeing other people online with it.
Was told, not available yet in my area, as a standalone or with homeworks.
still on 10 downsteams, and 3x 16qam upstream channels.
Hopefully coming though, VM have apparently being doing major upgrades in the area over past 2 days.. im a member of a local community group and numerous people for past 2 days have reported service outages for most of the day.. today I was one of them, was out from about 7am till 11am today.
Don't know exactly what they was doing but over past 2 days most of the area seems to of been effected.
signal levsl today also increased briefly 6dBmV then dropped back down again... was all over the place because initially they dropped from 0 to around -9dBmV so must be some big upgrades going on.
just hope its capacity upgrades lol
