I have been near where IRA bombs went off a couple of times (in mainland Britain in 96 and Norn Iron late 78), and the country carried on, showing terrorists we will not be intimidated.

Not really. Terrorists aim to cause death, injury and massive disruption. As such, they succeed if they cause any one of those things. London was disrupted regularly by the IRA, and they often caused death, injury and destruction. The Taliban have caused the same on a couple of occasions. IS have not, so they are less successful in their aims. That is not to say they won't launch a massive attack one day.

The sad thing is, l think that IS, is far worse than the IRA, will ever be. With the IRA, they gave out a codeword.
With IS, they will just strike. And that is it.
The biggest trouble is - where will they strike. There will always be a person who has been brainwashed into carry out the nasty deed.

Well they are worse in that they are more widespread. IS are all over the world and the IRA were more localised to the UK.

Worldwide, yes - in the UK (to date), no.
There were over 10,000 bomb attacks by the IRA in Norn Iron and the UK mainland during the Troubles, with nearly 3,500 deaths - IS, so far, no bombs and no deaths in the UK.

That's what I meant. IS has, so far, not killed anyone in the UK. Of course, that could and probably will change.
