Smile Cricket: BT Sport get next Ashes series !

At last Sky's monopoly on cricket has been ended. BT sport have the rights to the next Ashes series down under in 2017/18. Also all Aussie home internationals from 2016.

A nice kick up Sky's backside. At last there is a reason to have BT Sport.

Re: Cricket: BT Sport get next Ashes series !

People may kick Sky. But what about the people who cannot get BT Sport ?

Who exactly can't get BT Sport? If you can get BT Infinity, Virgin Media or a Sky satellite service then you can get BT Sport.

They'll ruin it. They'll have a massive black DOG logo right in the middle of the wicket, an L shaped info bar around the live match and whoever the cricket equivalent of Michael Owen is commentating.

The England team are the ones most likely to ruin it as they've no chance of winning in Aus

Personally don't like the Sky commentary (apart from Bumble). Full of prima donna Tory ex-England captains who have mostly failed. I turn the sound off and listen TMS on Radio 4, syncing the audio and pictures is an art form...

If only terrestial TV would show some interest in cricket again, Ch 5 has enough airtime to fill.

Re: Cricket: BT Sport get next Ashes series !

The way things are going, there is going to be less & less live sport on DTT. More than likely Wimbledon will be next to go to the "dark side".

Re: Cricket: BT Sport get next Ashes series !

Looking at the upcoming schedules for BT Sports, it looks like "BT Sports Europe" is being used almost as "BT Sports 3" at times. I feel marginally less bad about Virgin charging extra for it, if this carries on. Marginally.

ITV and Channel 5 (Viacom) certainly have the money but the economics of sport generally don't work on broadcasters having the money alone.
Advertising + pay tv fees on a pay TV channel exceed advertising income on a FTA channel by a long way. So sport is generally worth more to a pay TV channel than to a FTA advertising-funded one.
So it's about the business case, not the bank balances.
But would be great if Channel 5 gave it a go!

Re: Cricket: BT Sport get next Ashes series !

Never mind the Ashes in 2 years time, looks like BT are now in a fight with Sky to get the Eng v Pak series in October ! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cri...tensifies.html
