My laptop now a few years old was upgraded last year to Windows 7 from Vista. Until this week has performed well although a little slow by todays standards. Powered up the other day and nothing. The initial boot took place but sadly ventures no further than a blinking cursor in top left of screen. After a short period of time the only addition to change would like an single pitch sound (quite loud ) from any depressed key. leaving only option of a forced shut down. Would anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong and can it be restored to use.
I gratefully await
A big thank you to Osem for the above mentioned signpost where the issue with my laptop was resolved. The fact that on startup/boot there was positive clicking of acknowledgement the cd-rom drive was engaging but the black screen flashing cursor was an indication that boot could progress to open Windows. It was said that boot sequence in bios may have altered after a series of updates and advised me what it should be, following those changes the laptop has kindly returned to normal service. That must justify having a second machine.
