CompTIA A+

Hi All

I am looking to change my career path in to IT which was my original plan after college but then because I became comfortable in my current job my plan halted, but to due to my working hours and having a kid money and time is something I don't have a major lot of so going back to college is a no no, as I have some knowledge of computers I have decided I am going to study as my own pace and then if I feel I am at a level where I pass the exam I will save and pay for the exam myself.
My question to you is has anyone taken this exam and if so what learning materials did you use, are there any good websites for pratice question or learning materials?

Any help would be great.

Re: CompTIA A+

I did this many years ago.

I had to go to my local college/ITeC once a week as there was practical work involved.

There were two exams I took, one for hardware and one for software it cost about £1,500 but I got a discount because I knew the head of the training department from many years earlier.

I was told that if I had to retake any exam it would cost £250.

I bought the official A+ book at the time again that was around £40.

To be honest I don't know if you could do this at home full time.

Re: CompTIA A+

You used to be able to get funding for this if you were on the dole.

It's a good stepping stone, but if you want anything other that a 1st line support role, which any school leaver could do you should maybe look into something like a degree in computing with the open university.
