Surely, if it's such a wonderful service, then they shouldn't have any problem with going PPV, the money will roll in just as it has done for years.

You would think so but it seems not if the responses here are anything to go by..

Lenny henry has weighed in, no bbc no me, which imo wouldn't be a bad thing. I like his list of shows to precious little of which are made now

I'm incredulous that you do not watch anything that is produced by the BBC.Did you never watch Fools and Horses or Porridge?Do you only watch the commercial channels?Or is your choice sport only?
I'm not picking on you I'm genuinely interested how you have got by, not watching BBC shows that others have found absorbing, dramatic or humourous for your entire lifetime of watching TV.

You don't believe someone can get by without watching TV? Is it really that hard to comprehend?

So why protest about a licence fee if you don't watch any TV at all.Just don't have a TV.

That's the point I was making, if things go as the BBC hope not having a tv won't exempt you from having a licence or paying their tax/levy. I went five years without a tv and the only reason I have one now is because my children like it.

A TV licence isn't needed for owning a TV...
You need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record programmes as they're being shown on TV or live on an online TV service. This is the case whether you use a TV, computer, tablet, mobile phone, games console, digital box, DVD/VHS recorder or any other device.

What's that got to do with it? A licence is needed for watching any live broadcasts from any of the other channels also.
They could be watching the BBC through iPlayer in which case he wouldn't need a licence.

Re: BBC "to accept the end of the licence fee"
My only anger at the BBC and the Licence Fee, is our and simple they pay too much money for so called Tv presenters.
There large HQ in London has had massive refurbishment which ran into millions - which the licence payer
I have said for years that they need to advertise, to reap in money.
They also need to stop bowing to Osbonre etc.
They have become to political for my liking.
Several years ago the write of Judge John Deed, wrote an episode on an MP, this was shelved due to interference by outside sources.
The writer stated that he had further scripts binned as it went to near the bone on various issues.
I was a big fan of this series. And that episode was binned.
They should scrap the fee, and go to Adverts

Actually ALL the political parties complain incessantly about the bias of the BBC..Seems to me in that case that they have got the tone just about right.

Another way of looking at it: BBC Television Centre needed major work to upgrade it's various networks (electrical, phone and various kinds of data) to meet the needs of HD broadcasting, and the BBC's various other needs. BBC TV centre is also sitting on acres of prime real estate. So, what should the BBC have done? Spend millions upgrading TVC with no source of income apart from the licence fee, or spend millions upgrading broadcasting house (which, as I understand it, would have needed similar upgrades anyway) after selling TVC for £200m, and also selling off various other London premises?
I'm not defending the BBC as I do believe they waste a lot of money, but they also do a lot of good, and as far as I can tell, this is the cheapest way they could have done all the upgrades needed.

Re: BBC "to accept the end of the licence fee"
I would suggest that BBC Broadcasting House Portland Place London W1A 1AA is sitting on acres of ultraMEGA prime real estate compared to the White City site of the old BBC Television Centre.
Selling off Broadcasting House to redevelop the TV centre would seem the way to go to me.

Dave's plan is to break and rule us all.
remember I told you.
I like this part.
"I just don’t understand why the British public are putting up with it. How supine we’re all being about it. We’re going to let this happen, are we? It beggars belief."

Holidaymaker stopped by police at the airport over an unpaid TV licence fine - which she didn't even owe

Linda Wooldridge was told she would be put in the cells overnight if she didn't pay the £55 fine by officers at Edinburgh Airport after she returned from a break in Amsterdam.
They insisted the money was outstanding from a case at Dundee Sheriff Court and to avoid jail Linda, 50, paid the money and was then forced to fork out another £85 for a taxi after missing the last bus.
Police Scotland have now agreed to pay her back the £55 and Linda, from Linlathen, Dundee, is also appealing to get her taxi fare repaid too.
