Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
Agree about ink v. laser for serious photo use but these days it's not expensive to get decent colour photos done in the high street from memory cards and thereby avoid the hassle of inks drying out, heads clogging up etc.

At £130 (inc VAT & delivery) plus less than £30 for an extra 3 year comprehensive warranty, there's no huge downside.

Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
I have a chip resetter for my Stylus 680 and refill the carts for economy. The only issue I've ever had with the cartridges is the contacts in the print head that pick up the chip can get dirty and not recognise the new / refilled cart. A quick clean with a cotton bud and some contact cleaner fixes it.
Some of the later chipped models bork the cart completely once it's about 1/2 empty and there's no fix. (I know of)

Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
Well there are 2 or 3 I like from your suggestions. The real issue with them all is size..I've limited space and need something no more than 42 centimeters wide.

Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
That looks like a good choice Maggy. The reviews look positive and the size seems just right for the space you have. I will be interested to know what you think of it once you have it up and running, and how long the cartridges last.

Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
Let us know as it goes on, how long cartridges last/how much etc.

Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
Yes, inkjets are great if the cartridges/heads aren't an expensive and ongoing issue. We still use an old Lexmark which uses easily refillable, non chipped, cartridges. Gave up on our Kodak Hero - it just cost too much to run and the inks are a con.

Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
Well I have to say that the photos I'm printing are coming out at a far better quality than any Epson I've owned..

Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
It's surprising how much the technology changes for the better even in just a couple of years, most of the drawbacks are deliberate ones done by the manufacturers, like chipped cartridges, or 'multi colour' cartridge, where separate colours are more practical as you can replace a colour only when it's run out not unlike a 'multicolour' one where you have to change the whole thing each time.

Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
Well so far it's all good..but we have yet to replace any ink. However it's fast and so is the scanner which then prints a very good image.

Re: Replacing an Epson printer.
Dye sublimation printers can be worth consideration when buying a photo printer. I don't often need to print photos but my wife likes to carry a few prints around. She uses a Canon Selphy dye-sub printer (a thermal process). The camera plugs directly into it and photos can be zoomed/cropped before printing if needs be. Postcard size prints work out at about 25 Pence each. A bit expensive maybe but prints done with a dye-sub printer never fade and the quality is equal to the old days when film negatives were developed and printed. The printer is quite a few years old now but it continues to work well.
It's interesting to watch the dye-sub printer in operation too. It makes 4 passes at a photo ..3 colours and one sealing coat.
We have an HP Envy 5530 inkjet printer for other printing. Nothing wrong with it yet but we might consider getting colour laser printer next time.
