Streaming choices

I like so many other people have Amazon account for general purchasing as well as downloading books to my Kindle. I am looking to broaden my horizon and venture into movie streaming, since parting company with the Sky Sports and Movie package within my V/M bundle.
What would be the general consensus from the forum with a view towards the pros/cons between Amazon Prime and Netflix? Although I can stream Netflix through my Tivo boxes I do have smart TV's for Amazon.
thanks guys
Mel

Re: Streaming choices

Get a smart dns service from unblockus and it will open up other Netflix regions for you.(will not work on Tivo but will work on most smart tvs)
For ppv movies there is Blinkbox.

I agree with the above.

Amazon is really starting to get their act together and are doing some good exclusive TV deals (Vikings and Black Sails spring to mind), so it's worth keeping an eye on them.

By dumping Sky movies and Sports, you could get both and still have plenty of change!

Re: Streaming choices

I've had both Netflix and Prime for a while and much prefer Netflix - two major reasons:
1. I use unblockus (as mentioned earlier) giving access to all Netflix regions - the choice available is huge and makes Sky's 800 movies look paltry
2. A very high percentage of the catalog is available in 5.1 surround sound - important to me, the difference between stereo and 5.1 being similar to SD and HD picture quality in my mind.

I recently bought a Fire TV box (another £49 down the drain) in the hope that I'd be able to get 5.1 sound on Prime as Amazon intimated that it may be the fault of my Bluray player that there was no 5.1, even though Netflix worked fine. Sadly, still no 5.1 on Prime but I get surround sound on Netflix.

If you're happy with stereo then Prime has a good selection and I've found PQ to be very good and equal to that of Netflix. Just be careful where you click on Amazon as Amazon Instant Video (PPV) and Prime Instant Video (Subscription) are not always as clearly marked as they could be.

Hope this helps
