House move - only partial service on street

Hello there folks,

We have just put a bid on a house just round the corner from where I live at the moment, so thought there wouldn't be any problems getting my virgin service moved to this property. Could even see the wee CATV covers up the street so never thought I wouldn't be able to get Virgin....

Now putting the new address in virgin checker and the house number I need is missing there are lower numbers and higher numbers so thought must be some problems with their checker so sent a request to clarify and got a call back earlier today and the chap told me yeah when it was put in our cables didn't go that far up the street bla bla. I asked about the houses further up the same street that can get it and it again yeah there are some that is missing....

I asked can you sort that out and he was like we are expanding services but we can't fix it for you.

So sorry for that long post to get to my question for you guys...is there anyway to get this "fixed" I mean its not like a huge distance from the last house that can get it so its not like a whole street needing dug up and cabinets built etc....

Or is there an email to use to get in touch with someone high up in virgin that could fix this?

At least I can get FTTC at the new house but would prefer to keep my virgin service.

Thanks!

Re: House move - only partial service on street

Tbh dude I would fire off a request again or maybe Ben can recommend the right bods to talk to. Sometimes the customers service guys see things as black and white and don't want to challenge anything and just come up with excuses instead of fixing stuff. When 100mbit first became available in my area VM made a press announcement announcing it was available along with 4 or 5 other towns/cities so I rang up for it straight away and the bod I spoke was adamant that it wasn't available and wasn't going to be for a long time. I explained that VM had said it was but she didn't want to know. Luckily there was a name and email address tagged to the press release so I fired off an email explaining the problem and received an email back the next day apologising profusely and saying the problem has been solved and somebody was going to ring me back to arrange everything.

The moral of the story is that unless they were new builds, I very much doubt that VM have left out cabling the middle of a street and it is more than likely the house numbers need to be added. If it isn't cabled and other houses very close by are, surely it is easy enough for someone to come out and run another cable down to your house. I know it is possible because other forum users have had it done. It is just finding the right person to speak to. I would pm Ben if I were you, he knows the name of a dude to ring.

Re: House move - only partial service on street

Yeah thats what I thought and its not a new build house were built in the 50's-60's

This is how bad it is my new house have no 83 on the same postcode that my house have it goes up to 53 in Virgin checker the other side of the road has it available on house 82 & 84 I really dont understand how it could be that hard to fix. So thats why I was hoping someone had a good email address to fire off an email to someone beside the normal query people.

As I said I can get FTTC and its estimated 80/20 which is fine its just I would prefer to keep Virgin as I know its actually really nice and stable in my area.

Re: House move - only partial service on street

I contacted virgin from the postcode checker page when my address didn't show up not sure if that is the same as the "our service check form" as that takes me back to the store. The guy who phoned me said there was nothing they could do to get the new house cabled in although he did say about virgin are expanding their coverage...just not near me :~

Ach think I will just go with FTTC nice to get a SKY box again as my tivo box seems to have got the treacle treatment as its getting very slow!
