Saving money....
I was thinking about saving money with things like when it comes to purchasing goods and services online. utility bills and such.
where would we be financially today if we weren't able to do that?
we'd effectively be paying the asking price. and be spending a lot more than we are today.

Re: Saving money....
I know how u feel Gary and if u live on benefits like i do now every penny counts here are some of the things i have bought recently....
SATA to Molex adapter - Cheapest place locally £4.99 each, on ebay 99p inc delivery.
New longer pipe for my clothes drier. Cheapest place locally £19.99, On ebay £5.99 inc Delivery
An A0 Poster of Tom Daley for my sons Birthday. Cheapest locally £24.99, On ebay £8.99 + £1.50 delivery.
External Dynamode case for 3.5 Hard Disk. Locally it was £23.99, i got exact one online with free delivery for £17.99.
1GB DDR5 R7 260x OC PCI-E 3 Graphics. 3 Shops locally quoted me £99.99 back 3 months ago, i then looked online and found a sapphire one on sale at the time on ebuyer for £79.99 and because it was over £50 free shipping. I did have a HD6670 which did the job as i dont game but DVI port conked out and im running dual monitor.
This may sound like a silly thing but ive been collecting old coins since i was a child.
Online i found the plastic cases for them on ebay 100 for £4.99 inc delivery, i also wanted to store some in a kind of book so i looked around locally and only place i found who sells them was a shop in Swansea market and he wanted £29.99 for one that stored i think it was 200 coins. I found one on ebay for £18.99 free delivery.
So yep online is brilliant, if shops didn't put such a high markup on things they would get more business.
My friend works for a very big store which is nationwide and he is the manager of menswear department and has been for 11 years. He was telling me that the most expensive suits have atleast a 60% markup.

Re: Saving money....
I have paid for the benefits i get from tax for over 35 years working and i have never ever once in those 35 years claimed any benefits.
Now i am ill i will expect what i can get and spend it on whatever i want to spend it on to try and take my mind off the pain i am in.

Good for you. Criticising you for doing this is akin to criticising someone for taking out home contents insurance and then claiming for it on their policy after a burglary.
What the person then does with the proceeds of the reimbursement is nobody elses business.

Re: Saving money....
The internet has indeed made things a hell of a lot more competitive, especially for items you don't need right away and can easily post. I still buy some things locally however, as I like to support local business and sometimes I need those parts "that day".
As for utilities (especially telecoms), can you imagine what it would be like if we went back to the old days of the local electricity board and the GPO? No competition would lead to no improvement and you'd pay whatever they wanted you to pay.
