Self install query?

If I was moving home to a cabled property today is it possible to get the service activated the next day (or working day) by doing a self install?

I'll just confess that a Sky customer cancelled because he claimed Virgin sales had said he would get his Superhub and TIVO box the next day when he arrived at the property and would be up and running the same day.

The best we (Sky) could do was 6 working days for his broadband and phone activation.

Not if you were literally moving today, but with sufficient notice to get the equipment to you, yes.

I guess the difference is that Sky have to deal with BT to get the line set up, but with cable it's all under VM's control.

Re: Self install query?

The guy said he had got his move confirmed that day and had literally phoned us then Virgin then back to us to cancel. This was about 5pm when he phoned me.

I said I was skeptical that they could do this kind of turnaround but whatever it was it was going to be quicker than an Openreach activation.

Openreach cost Sky and everyone else so many customers with their long activation times. It's all electronic so it could/should be deliverable the next day for them too.

It's precisely because Openreach have to provide service to so many ISPs that the lead times are slow. It isn't just a flick of a switch, you're wrong on that.

If there is a working line to a house and the previous occupant was a BT customer, they have to actually be physically switched to Sky's equipment in the exchange to become a Sky customer. Physical cabling work is required inside the exchange by an Openreach engineer for this to happen. It isn't as simple as you're making it out.
