Execution for sorcery and apostasy
Awesome.
I seem to be reading a story that's been dated about 500 years out.
Still they have oil, it's about all they have, so it's all fine. Wonder if they've completely stopped funding Islamists in Iraq and Syria yet?

If he had been a sorcerer surely he would have been able to vanish in a puff of smoke.
Full speed back to the 15th century.

Re: Execution for sorcery and apostasy
I wonder what the penalty for terrorism is then: Sent to Syria and Iraq to fight no doubt.
I've often wondered why the FCO advice for one of the world's premiere sponsors of terror states that it's infrastructure should be a target for it's own terrorists. The mind boggles.

Re: Execution for sorcery and apostasy
One could argue that a quick death is much better than the torture of life imprisonment, which can happen for selling someone else a plant. Not in some third world backward country though, that's america and their drug laws.
Perspective.

Re: Execution for sorcery and apostasy
My perspective seems skewed as it struggles to equate selling drugs, for which I might add I think the penalty in the USA especially for weed is ridiculous, with execution for leaving a religion or a non-existent offence as it doesn't exist.
That said, I could maybe persuaded of the wisdom of executing those who try and profit from 'sorcery'.

Re: Execution for sorcery and apostasy
You obviously missed the whole point I was making in the post.
In the US, and sometimes here, no one batters an eyelid to someone being put in a small box for their entire life for selling essentially a plant. It's considered normal. Just as being executed for sorcery may seem normal over there. Some countries would look at america executing people and think they are as backwards as China, Saudi and the others that still do this. People are quick to call these Arab countries out on stupidity yet ignore the fact some western countries do similar stuff. Won't mention the US executing people for no real reason, as their perspective is 'it's the war on terror' when in fact, its just as backwards as those in the story.
I agree with neither the imprisoning people due to the war on drugs or executing people due to religion. Just don't go calling our other countries for doing that stuff when our own and allies are doing exactly the same, but just putting it under an umbrella of another name.

We'll agree to disagree. I see a legitimate reason for drug control, though not to the extent the USA has it or in the manner they do. Executing someone for sorcery or apostacy is on a whole other level of stupidity.
