Just out of interest there are 2 fujitsu vans with 2 blokes pulling cables through the cable man holes. Why do they do this?. I have seen them a few times now around my area now..

What area is it? Fujitsu does fibre optics for a few companies: http://www.fujitsu.com/uk/news/pr/fs_20120430.html

I believe they work with Virgin as well: http://www.fujitsu.com/uk/about/loca.../virgin-media/

Re: What are the fujitsu guys are doing outside my house?

I thought Fujitsu had a ridiculous £4 billion government contract to provide high speed BB to rural areas of England which VM and Openreach didn't want to cover because of the cost?

Nah. No such contract exists. The rural broadband thing is BDUK and all contracts went to Openreach.

Pulling fibre for CATV network upgrade, VM Business circuits, VM core network, or any combination of the above.

Re: What are the fujitsu guys are doing outside my house?

It appears I am a bit behind in the news:

"Fujitsu has withdrawn from the Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) procurement process, leaving BT as the only bidder and raising fresh questions about the competitiveness of the initiative, which provides funding for the rollout of fibre in areas where it is not commercially viable.

BT and Fujitsu were the only two participants in the BDUK procurement framework designed to deliver fast Internet access to rural areas, but BT has won all of the funding available so far. Under the scheme, local councils must match the amount that they receive from the government"

nice map, I didn't know such things existed. You should zoom in on Lincoln, it is road works galore in town. What should be a 10 minute trip into town currently takes at least 1 hour.
