Re: Pirates Ahoy!!!

Most of the stuff I download is fan-subbed anime and simply not available in Europe. Even if the originators release it to Europe or USA their subs/dubs are crap.

So I'm not really depriving anybody of revenue.

But I object to snooping on my activity for whatever reason.

Others strip off the added money making bit from the bottom. It's a nasty trick used to get through to the customer and having them think they know who you are. If they manage to trick just a small percent in to paying, they make a fair bit of money from an automated system that sends out emails based on swarms.

They call it a settlement figure rather than a fine. Have a read of this for a concise explanation.

I'm assuming VCAP would work in a similar way....
The notices are going direct to subscriber from ISP, the rights holders make the initial complaint to the ISP and nothing more.

There are no provisions for the complainant to have direct communication with the subscriber.

Sending anonymous threat-o-grams in the UK is a massive no-no according to legal precedent. I thought you knew that hence my mention of contradiction. The only way to try and obtain money from end users under this system is the same way as the old one - a court order for their details.

Re: Pirates Ahoy!!!

So you are saying that it's going to work different here than the other countries then. I wasn't aware that was the case. Rightscorp does it in a few countries and recently spoke to UK isps's about it apparently:

RightsCorp Wants To Bring Its Copyright Protection Methods To The UK

Notorious US copyright enforcement agency RightsCorp is set on bringing its services – and controversial methods – to Europe and the UK.
Quote:
The company, which works on behalf of copyright holders, specialises in monitoring popular torrent trackers and identifying the IP addresses of online pirates. It then forces the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to send letters to the owners of those addresses, demanding $20 (£12) for each illegally downloaded song or movie, threatening legal action as the alternative.

“We are expanding in Canada first, but we are investigating a launch in Europe. I can’t give any specific dates, but we are getting a great reception from everyone we have spoken to [in the UK],” RightsCorp co-founder and CEO Robert Steele told TechWeekEurope.

“In Germany and the UK some copyright holders engage law firms and run large-scale campaigns to bring court orders and file lawsuits against file-sharers. We are sending a much simpler, less expensive communication that resolves the matter before it goes to court. That’s why we are optimistic that there will be a way to do this in Europe
Rest at the link above.

If anyones up for something like that, let me know

Re: Pirates Ahoy!!!

Astounding how moronic people are to assume that this in any way changed the law.

Re: Pirates Ahoy!!!

It doesn't change the law but it possibly offers a transport method for settlement letters without having to go through a court to get customer details. So in that small respect it would skirt around the law a bit if they indeed tried attaching these to vcap notices.

The business model for those sending settlement letters appears to be to trick/scare people in to paying up, even though they are not actually aware of the customer details and thus have not taken anyone to court as far as i'm aware. The problem is enough people fall for the trick to make their business more than viable.

Oh oh very scary.... NOT oh really ............ then again what have copyright protection lobby done that has worked to say to the public; that it shouldn't be done go here for you material provided or you require..it's never going to happen so anything they do isn't going to work full stop.

The only way there (hopeless copyright lobby) market is going to survive : UPDATE YOUR BUSINESS PROFIT MODEL ....it's that simple & I've said this before.

# Copyright owned material = closed market + little money amounted

# Freely offered & paid by advertisement placements + small % reduction in profits/earnings = open market & builds growth + net value amount gained (money)

> This the model offered by PTB founders many years ago but the media market rejected it on profit grounds !!!! Their loss
Our gain

May the continue > MORE THEY PUSH FOR BIGGER PROFITS MORE THEY LOSE
