Re: Free Upgrade delayed
Upgrades in my OH's area weren't due until between December to February, I called up the other day to get a Superhub out and they said they'd need an engineer to install it as there was an "issue" in her locality.
He came a few days later, installed the Superhub and rang Virgin....and promptly activated her upgrade there and then.
Ah the perks of this site being owned by Virgin......ooops did I just say that out loud??
*disclaimer - in case anyone took that seriously, for the record Virgin does not own or have anything to do with Cable Forum...

There used to be in the 10/20/30/50/100 days. If you had a 20Mbps or lower tier you had a DOCSIS 2 profile and one channel, if you had a 30Mbps or higher tier you had a DOCSIS 3 profile and 3+ channels, irrespective of hardware. Superhubs and VMNG300's on 20Mbps or below were restricted to one channel operation.

Interesting. I guess we'll wait and see but I'd still be surprised as there's really no benefit to segregating users by number of channels.

I did explain the benefit from VM's perspective given the capability difference between SH2 & SH3. What we don't know is VM's plan for staying with the SH2 for the lower tiers. I imagine that would fall in line with Netgear's strategic programme.

Re: Free Upgrade delayed
Ours has been put back again! Now July 2015 earliest to December 2015. Not that it's really a problem as the 20Mbs streams 1080 HD content without buffering and I can wait for stuff to download or schedule it overnight.
Many fileshare sites limit non-paying downloads to much less anyway.

I need to keep up.
There is no cable here. I had 2 x FTTC services running into a TP-Link ER-5120.
I cancelled one of the FTTC lines primarily to free up a port in the cabinet so that someone stuck on sub-2Mb ADSL could take it.
It's left me at:

There are already areas on or prepped to go to 12.
The next version of the Superhub is not going to be a DOCSIS 3.1 device. It's a 24x8 device: 24 downstreams, maximum 1.2Gb, 8 upstreams, maximum 216Mb.

Target is 64QAM throughout, however there will, eventually, be a mixed mode channel which will be 3.2MHz wide, not 6.4, and will be 16QAM for DOCSIS 1.x devices and 64QAM for DOCSIS 2 and higher.
It should be noted though that bonding that mixed mode channel in with the group is something done in the USA where the upstream maxes out at 42MHz. VM have no such restrictions so can probably run with 4 x 6.4MHz 64QAM, local network permitting, with an ASM fallback to 16QAM, and a token 3.2MHz channel for STBs running on the remaining VXRs.
