Re: my iMac gets very very hot after switching it on

Open Activity Monitor in Utilities and check for any processes using excessive CPU time, ie. ReportCrash

There's a known issue with the last Mavericks update causing a conflict with the iSight camera when certain applications are installed: One of those being AirDisplay. The net effect is that the ReportCrash process throws a wobbler and starts eating processor time like it's going out of fashion. It's worth checking out if this is your issue.

Re: my iMac gets very very hot after switching it on

So while Mac's are being mentioned I have a couple of questions.

If I connect a Mac Mini via HDMI will the sound come through the cable the same way as it does in my PC (so I don't need to plug speakers in) and can I use my normal external (USB 2) Blu-ray writer and not have to buy an apple one?

Is there a UK voice for the built in screen reader?

Cheers,

Dilli.

HDMI on your Mac Mini does support Audio Dilli but you need to make sure that you select the correct output target which you can do by opening the properties page (right or alt+click) behind the speaker icon on your desktop status/menu bar.

There's no reason why your BD writer won't work

If you're using text-to-speech there are a number of different UK English voices you can select from the Speech configuration pages in system properties. You'll be prompted to download and install when you select one.
