Question Assistance with wine making?

I started brewing some Beaverdale Pinot Grigio Red
on 12 April but as yet there is no sign of fermentation.

I added a new pack of wine yeast on the 15th but there is still
nothing bubbling through the air lock

There is no apparent foam on the top of the wine
as usually happens by now

Any ideas?

Re: Assistance with wine making?

Temperature too low as Osem says. Don't sit the fermenting vessel on a bare floor as that will cool it. Even placing layers of corrugated cardboard under it can help. Or you can go overboard with an electric heating jacket/belt.

I always start yeast in a small jar with a tepid sugary solution. Keep it in a warm place until it starts frothing, then add it to the main vessel.

Re: Assistance with wine making?

all measurements are for a 25 litre container (like the ones you get on water coolers in offices) :

2.5 kilos of sugar. 23 litres of red grape juice. 1-2 teaspoons of yeast (bakers yeast will do, but wine yeast would be great).

sugar first, then juice, then yeast. stir it all up, stick a condom on top and then gaffer tape it to secure it. you might have to let some gas escape occasionally. sit it in a warm room for approx. 3 weeks. then bottle, and leave to stand for as long as you want. job done.
