I defend the Police when I think they are in the right. When they are wrong I will say so. I don't defend the one who emailed an MP saying he was there when he wasn't and I don't defend the ones that leaked information to the press.

Despite the police having been shown to be dishonest, you STILL give them the benefit of the doubt and take their word over Mitchell

Yes, as I've pointed out in this whole sorry affair only one person has consistently told the same story, the original cop who has never been suspended, charged or reprimanded. I believe him over the person who has backtracked and changed his story several times.
I couldn't care less about the others who either lied or leaked information. They should have known better and have paid the price for it with their careers or in jail time.

Plebgate MP Andrew Mitchell called officer a 'little s**t', claim court documents 'exposing ex-Chief Whip's 'record of abusing police'
"The former cabinet minister at the centre of the Plebgate row has a history of foul-mouthed confrontations with police officers at Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament, the High Court will hear."
From the Indy.

My favourite part of that Indy article was in one of the reader's responses:
"Talking of little sh*ts:
"Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason". - Mark Twain."

Former government chief whip Andrew Mitchell has lost his High Court libel action over the "plebgate" incident.
Mr Justice Mitting said he was satisfied that the MP did say the word "pleb".

If this is true then Mitchell has set out to destroy this man's career for telling the truth.

Re: UPDATED: Andrew Mitchell has resigned
As I posted almost 12 months ago, this was always a curious move by Mitchell. It is well known that judges instinctively respect the contents of a PC's notebook. I speculated at the time that Mitchell may have felt confident due to having some big bazooka to produce as evidence in court. It turns out that Mitchell was relying not on some killer piece of evidence, but on hubris and arrogance. Maybe he thought the clumsy attempts to jazz up the story by other Met officers (not) present, added weight to his claim that the incident didn't happen as recorded.
Apparently he may face a costs/compo bill of up to £3 million. I suspect that when it comes to it, surprisingly few of the Mitchell assets will be found to be held in his own name.

Re: UPDATED: Andrew Mitchell has resigned
I dare say Mitchell will be reflecting on any legal or other advice he was given which led him down the libel route. Balance of probability is a very risky business as he's just found out to his considerable cost.
