Don't the financial figures lag behind the politics by several years (I think I read 7 somewhere)? So we won't see the real results of the current political measures for another year or so. This means if labour get in, and we see an upturn in "fortunes" they will claim the success but really it's not theirs to claim. They will then spend (as labour do) before leaving power and letting the following government get it as the finances catch up again.

As for personal circumstances, yes we are worse off than we were but we are fortunate to be able to weather it for the moment. Others really are struggling.
