like I said to start off with dude, I think it is going to be a utilisation issue at the top end of town, there is just way too much student accommodation. That being said, I think there is a noise fault somewhere as well. Back in August my connection went down two weekends on the trot and they said there was a noise issue they were investigating. When I rang up a few weeks later to upgrade to 350mbits I got an automated message apologising that I was still experiencing problems, it is a complex issue and they are working on it.
That being said, it is always worth checking your power levels yourself because more often than not you cannot believe the bs tech support tells you.
If your shub is in modem mode you need to go to

http://192.16.100.1 and look at the following screens:
If you can post some shots of your downstream and upstream power levels that would be great.
