That's a good point
I think that's half of it, the other alternative is the even more legacy thing of checking your watch/clock regularly to see what time it is so you don't miss the start of the programme.
Tivo surely wouldn't know every programme you might switch to spontaneously? I can understand that if it's something you might like it would record it for you but if you say suddenly notice you've missed 10 minutes of something (due to not having a reminder) you couldn't I guess switch over and rewind it unless it happened to be in the wish list or something Tivo would have recorded it for you?
