I think this is quite a mistake on VM's part, Sky boxes and many freeview boxes support reminders. I'm really surprised this feature is missing...

Maybe if enough people complain to VM the update will happen and as soon as possible. I've already submitted my feedback over the phone and by e-mail  I was definitely surprised that the bloke I spoke to and his supervisor were totally unaware... |
If TiVo can do it, then VM will add this, but it's not top of the list.
I think you should use TiVo, and then decide if you can wait or if you just can't live without the legacy feature
