Took me a while, but i've finally found the perfect device:

Logitech Squeezebox Duet multi-room music streamer



Basically, you hook the receiver up to your stereo, install software on your server and use the LCD remote to decide what youy want to listen to.

You can also purchase extra receivers and listen to the same music in different rooms, or different music in different rooms. You can buy extra remotes too.

Of course, if you want to buy one one as a finder's fee to say thanks, I won't turn my nose up at it
