Has anyone had any luck at unlocking the above modem, so I can insert a new sim to use abroad?

I have been reading the DIY methods on the web, and don't want to brick the modem. I have looked at dc unlocker web site and it does not seem very user friendly, how easy it it to use?

Also what do people use when abroad? A local sim, or a cheap sim from uk with roaming option?
