I have to challenge your assertion that "The Australians" have tried to get Netflix to prevent them (Australians) from accessing Netflix from Australia. The facts are that there are currently 3 VOD providers in Australia and they will be joined by Netflix on March 15, 2015. Estimates vary but its acknowledged that up t0 800,000 Australians currently access TV from elsewhere via VPNs etc. This is not illegal or even frowned upon. In Australia one can import up to $1000 worth of goods, tax and duty free, at any one time - this includes but is not limited to: CDs, DVD, Blurays, iPods, tablets etc.
The people who are whingeing about VPNs are existing VOD providers (Quickflix, Easyflix & Presto) who don't want the competion - tough! Good article here if you're interested:
