If the reasons given are right can the BBC ever really hope to produce decent drama series in this type of mold in a world where the best ones often run to 4, 5, 6 or more seasons?

Sure they can produce three part mini series etc, but can they ever really produce multi season dramas and still comply with their charter by leaving room for new and diverse stuff?

I never watched Atlantis, but it seemed to me to be the sort of thing that would lend itself to an extended run. Could they ever really hope to do it justice in two seasons?
