I've just come across my Mum's receipt for her Singer electric sewing machine bought in May 1946 for £23. 4/6d, equal to around £675 at today's rates. Wonder where she got that money from? Incidentally the machine still works perfectly (I was using it yesterday) it hasn't been used for the last 3 years and has never been serviced.
