Here's how the previous merger worked.

Bell Cable Media which already acquired Nynex internationally not just in the UK acquired Videotron UK operations in 1996, then Cable and Wireless acquired 53% of the company and merged in Mercury Communications creating Cable and Wireless Communications, therefore Nynex-Bell held a 47% share in Cable and Wireless Communications until NTL took over, explains why it was so bad!

Then MCI acquired Nynex-Bell and this eventually turned into Verizon, as you know Verizon is part owned by Vodafone.

Vodafone are now interested in Cable and Wireless Worldwide.

It's a bit of a circle, although for some reason I never thought Vodafone would have got so big, I always thought it would get swallowed up by a rival.

Vodafone's expensive price plans and world wide presence has made them strong. Vodafone acquiring Cable and Wireless Worldwide maybe a good thing for both companies, Vodafone will be able to expand into a converged telecoms provider and will turn Cable and Wireless Worldwide around.

Vodafone is more of a responsible company especially when it comes to finances which is why they are operational in nearly every country in the world. In the UK they have fallen to the 4th largest mobile network, but this can be a good thing as they are focusing high spending customers and can offer the best service, an over subscribed service can lead to network congestion, slow internet ect....

Everything Everywhere may claim that they are market leaders with 28 Million+ customers but this won't stay for long as they are becoming uncompetitive and other networks like 3 are offering better or same services for half the price.

BT,Cable and Wireless Worldwide and Virgin Media are not so good when entering new markets like the mobile phone industry, they always seem to mess it up somehow or something goes wrong after 5 years and they end up selling it off. That's why i'm wondering if Virgin Media bidding for a 4G licence is a mistake rather than good news. I don't trust NTL will be a good player in the industry. They failed at trying to get a 3G licence and when they took over Virgin Mobile, they haven't really invested in it well and it seems to have gone down a bit. Same with BT, after they got shut of Cellnet, there tries with BT Mobile was terrible!
