Yes, deaths have been a regular if infrequent feature, sadly. Having said that, 11 fatalities since 1981 is a very small percentage indeed given the vast numbers
(c. 800,000) who've taken part. Also it's not a feature of the particular event unlike, say, the Grand National, people drop dead when out running on a regular basis for all sorts of reasons. Of course, none of the above reduces the impact on the loved ones of those who've died.
