PROVIDED the software is for the right receiver. In any case, pukka Freesat receivers will be cheap as chips when they appear.
Meantime, you should be able to manually set up the Sky box to receive other channels that are broadcast from the same cluster of satellites but, for one reason or another, haven't ended up in the EPG.
Check out this site to see if there are any extra channels that you want to get hold of (all those with a buff background are unencrypted):

If there are, then make a note of the details and thern investigate the setup menu of your STB.
Note that you won't be able to get all the information that is available in the Sky EPG but you may well be able to display the 'now' and 'next' information like a pukka FTA receiver.
