Where is this going to end I wonder? It seems to me that the pursuit, by users, of such things as fame, ratings, views, intimidation, notoriety and even radicalisation, social media has allowed itself to be abused in this manner and not really done very much to prevent it. Yes some people have done very nicely out of living their lives on social media but a great many more don't and either wind up the victims of a global array of bullies/sexists/racists etc. or become so obsessed with acquiring views/likes they wind up hurting people, jeopardising their careers or even killing themselves. Are these people the acceptable collateral damage in the world of social media or do the companies concerned need to be far more proactive in trying to control what they allow to be broadcast?
