If you let in well over a million people what do you think is going to happen with pollution and everything else.
Then there is the added pollution of shipping their own specific food items into the country. We've imported pollution from eastern Europe.
Even if say the UK manages, the development of petrol/diesel cars & vans will effectively be killed off fairly soon, so how are other countries going to manage? Is the EU going to prop them up over that as well?
