There's no question that, legally speaking, stealing cable is indeed a form of theft, just not a very serious form of theft. It's not something the legal system, or even the cable companies themselves take all that seriously in terms of prosecuting it. In fact, a recent newspaper article on the subject stated that no individual users of dodgy boxes have ever been successfully convicted, only people who profit by selling boxes, cards and related services and products, so it's one of those things where I find the almost absurd level of outrage quite surprising, considering that 95%, if not more, of the outraged people have committed what in the eyes of the law, and for our resident bible-huggers, in the eyes of the Lord, are considerably more serious crimes.
