When what is basically the strongest county Surrey finished next to bottom of their group in the 50 over one day cup and another strong country Lancashire qualified for the play offs by the skin of their teeth it just shows what a mess cricket is in.
I dislike the 16.4 Whack-a-mole (Hundred) competition intensely. Surrey lost 12 first choice, first team players and Lancashire 8 to the 16.4 format franchises.
Which idiot decided to have the long established 50 over one day competition at the exact same time as the 16.4 slogfest?
There appear to be bigger, more varied crowds attending the 16.4 but how many of them have been given reduced price or even free tickets.
The ECB seems determined to continue supporting this folly even though it is costing them dearly to support it and as no other cricket playing country is playing 16.4 one can only hope it dies a swift and painful death.
