What do the number of thumbs mean?

I seem to recall seeing something about:
3 :tu: meaning "give me more of this and similar"

But on the rest of the scale, what's the difference between 1 and 2, or 1, 2 or 3 :td:

The suggestions seem to be getting tuned in fairly well, with a few that I thumb down and delete, and another bundle of "meh".

Does it assume anything from a straight delete, which I usually do if I'm ok with the show but just don't want that episode

The number of thumbs just tell it how much you like the programme. As far as I know the algorithm it uses isn't published.

It doesn't change the thumb rating if you delete a recording unwatched.

Re: What do the number of thumbs mean?

I had an original S1 TiVo and rule of thumb (excuse the pun) was don't do 3 thumbs up or down.
The reason behind this is was it was rather aggressive in that you put 3 thumbs down to say Forrest Gump. This may well halt all suggestions involving those main actors, the genre of film etc.
TV wise if you gave 3 thumbs down to Eastenders but 3 thumbs up to Coronation Street it's all a bit puzzled as to what to do with Soaps and probably doesn't bother doing anything with that genre.

Ever since then and still now I typically do 1 thumb and if I really like or dislike something do 2 thumbs.
It seems to work well for me based on that.
Due to the kids getting hold of the remote occasionally and just hitting buttons as they do I review the ratings from time to time and remove 3 thumbs up for Paw Patrol and 3 thumbs down for Line of Duty.

Everything that you record is automatically given one thumb up.

AFAIK this does not apply to suggestions that are recorded.
