Junk mail getting beyond a joke

Everyday I come home, i'm greeted with a pile of rubbish behind the door, junk mail. Everyday. No end to it. Dominos,Sky,Aviva,Specsavers,Topps Pizza,Taxi cards,Oxfam the list is endless. I'm getting tired of it because sometimes they post a handful of the same leaflets at the same time, and some of them come through the Royal mail. It is extremely annoying and it's a complete waste of paper. Why don't the government do something about it? It's a menace and it got to a point were I blocked the letter box off and instead they started dumping it on the doorstep instead and got a call from the council about the mess outside. Is anyone else plagued with crap through the door?

Sounds like theft to me or mail fraud, not to mention there's a good chance you're costing the person or company your sending it to the cost of a stamp & admin fee as business reply post is only valid to the address pre printed on it IIRC.

Nope, it works fine - I regularly just send it to myself when I've got nothing to send to someone else.

As for the law - if someone wants to raise a prosecution then fine.

You send yourself mail? Why don't you just hand it to yourself and save the bother of going to a post box.

As for the law, if I had shares in RM or worked for them as some members here do I'd be glad if someone did prosecute.

You get back at them by remailing the junk mail to yourself, bet they can't sleep at night with that kind of offensive being mounted against them.

It doesn't flick my switch as it isn't my dividend or wages your stealing from.

Do what I did, I was getting loads of mail but the name was spelt wrong.

I printed a load of labels saying "Not known at this address. please remove from your databases".

Stick this over my address and put in the nearest post box, they have now stopped.

For pizza and other such mail I drop into a box by the door then stick in the recycle bin.

This problem was solved ages ago in Holland. Many people have a sticker on their letterbox stating they don't want any unsolicited/unaddressed mail. Actually, there's two versions, depending on wether or not you want free 'newspapers'. There's a no/no and a no/yes sticker.

A bit like this UK initiative:

All that's needed is for people to take this up and actually start putting these stickers on their letter box so word gets out.

Either way: it might be worth a punt at £1 for a sticker and 50 P&P for any number of stickers?

I've been telling people about this for 16 years and this is the first time anyone has got so upset about it.

You can contact the Royal Mail to opt out of them delivering unaddressed mail to your property but addressed mail will still get through as they have a legal obligation to do so, click the link to find out how to opt out.

I had something like that and the postman still posted it, I asked him WHY and he said it was a sackable offense to not deliver it.

So all i do if there is a return envelope is send them back the mail they dumped on me, I rename the envelope so it gets returned to the Royal mail sorting office in Warrington

And where's the law that says the RM have to honour these requests? What action can you take if they ignore the stickers?

The idea's okay but the implementation needs improving :)
