DVDs & Blu-ray Discs you Lust after ..

i Thought it would be good to have a dvd thread so People could discuss the latest dvd's or just talk about ones you own

today i picked up a copy of the very good world at war for only £85.99 there are no words in the Dictionary for how moveing this show is :(

I like my babylon 5 dvd sets :)

Um - And my Battlestar Galactica set.

I did have blakes 7 (series 1) but the WHOLE set was screwed up and I had to take it back.

I couldn't see me paying £85.99 for a dvd tho ;) (Although I have been tempted by the star trek movies set - but then they started bringing out the special editions so I'm glad I didn't)

And my entire collection of Friday the 13th movies, all orginal all suplied by the fantastic play.com.

Next one I'm ordering is the Rambo trilogy (hey i'm still a kid at heart, Rambo was my hero lol).

I did like the new one - BUT - Although I did get it on DVD I also took it back as it was probably one of the worst encoded dvd's I've ever seen. VERY poor :(

The copy I taped on my S-vhs VCR was better - that's how bad it was.

Yeah - and when I finally get a dvd-writer I'll be able to make my own DECENT copy :)

On reflection I think my copy of 'flight of the navigator' on dvd is almost as bad - but that's an old film so I don't know what galactica's excuse is - except maybe it's ment to be that way - you know arty (grany) or something.

I nearly got it the other day off EBay-it was £38.00

[Edit]-I noticed In Sainsbury's the other day that they were doing the Alien films on a 'buy one/get one free' jobbie, & each one was priced @ £9.00!! (not the Quadrilogy admittedly, but still!)

Oooh a B7 fan. I'm sure my set will be equally stuffed, the problem is I got it through Horizon and it has Paul Darrow and Peter Tuddenhams sigs on the outside of the case. I also got a nice poster of the S1 DVD release with Garth Thomas scrawled on it.

Annoyingly they sent the DVDs in a Jiffy bag and the outer carton got a little bent.

Went and got seasons 3 and 4 of Futurama last night to complete the set - absolute class.

Just waiting to get Spiderman 2 and Troy but, other than that, I'm not allowed to get anymore before Chrimble :(

Just got to save my pennies for the extended Return of the King and that can then take pride of place on the top shelf (ahem) with Futurama, the other two LOTR and my Band of Brothers boxset :tu:

This from the site
Just enter the UPC from the DVD case and DVD Profiler does the rest!
If you have a DVD-ROM drive, its even easier. Put the DVD in the drive and let DVD Profiler recognize it automatically.
Don't have the UPC yet? Add it by title using powerful search criteria.
http://www.intervocative.com/dvdpro/Info.aspx

Still trying to find out if there is a free version :)

There is, and you get this
Free registration includes:
  • Catalog an unlimited number of DVDs
  • Host your collection online with the My Profiler feature
  • One-step entry - enter the UPC and DVD Profiler does the rest
  • Download hundreds of custom reports and skins
  • Powerful price search engine, parental control, integration with DVD Profiler Pocket
Probably with pop-up ads, as the purchased version says this
Run DVD Profiler and My Profiler without those anoying ads.

Great film. I think it was 7 or 8 quid in HMV. I was tempted by the special version (HMV have it online, didn't see it in the store), but decided against it as it's twice the price & I don't really care about the extras.

I liked it a lot. Not as good as no.2 IMO, but still cool. Magneto & Wolverine are always great. The new characters were a bit wasted though.

Jean always comes back from the dead. Got quite tiresome in the comics.

(There's a famous saying, "No one in comics stays dead except Uncle Ben"*)

*It used to be "No one in comics stays dead except for Bucky, Jason Todd, and Uncle Ben", but Bucky & Jason were brought back to life last year.

Looks good. I've already got I & II though, & am not too fussed about 3 & 4. I just want Returns & the Donner Cut of II.

You haven't got 1 and 2 from that box set though. The extra's are outstanding. It even includes some of the old cartoons and also the Superman and the Mole-men movie as well as a lot of Deleted scenes and 2 versions of Superman 1.

It does look really cool. I rarely bother with extras though.

i'm surprised my other half hasn't seen this thread yet... he has so many dvd's! Has anyone got any recommendations for insurance? A lot of household policies don't seem to actually cover them?!

They do, you just need to itemise them like you would a diamond ring etc. Take some pictures of the lot of them and tell your insurer that you house contents includes 500 DVDs at an estimated replacement cost of 12 each giving a total value for replacement of 6000 or something like that. I've done that for DVDs and CDs (all 800 of them).

I never did get the Superman DVDs... planning on getting Superman I, Superman II: The Donner Cut, & Superman Returns on HD-DVD instead now.

Now slowly starting to build my HD-DVD collection.

Currently have:

King Kong (I really don't like it, but it came free with my HD-DVD drive & is good as a "demo disc" at least as the picture quality is v v good).

Batman Begins (awesome movie; excellent PQ).

M:i:III (very good, better than no1 & no2 IMO; excellent PQ).

The Departed (one of my favourite films of 2006; not yet watched the disc, although it's meant to be an excellent version)

Miami Vice (trading it in tomorrow, as I found it extremely boring; PQ was grainy although that's apparently intentional, sound was low & mumbly).
