Good news indeed and a good reason for the The European Court of Human Rights to continue. Despite what the tabloids would have us believe.

I believe that it was the previous Government (the one so enamoured with curtailing civil liberties) which wanted to appeal this ruling. The Coalition Government has already previously said it plans to review the many anti-terror laws created by the previous Government.

re: [Merged] Anti Terrorism Stop & Search Rejection
I think in all honesty, what ever happens in this country regarding stop and search, we have to toughen up certain laws.
And one of them is stop and search, we have so far always stood back and allowed things to go unanswered, but we have to allow the police service to do this, They are not stupid, if they know someone is a villian or a well known person on there hit list, or they walk down a street and see someone, that they believe could or have commited a crime, then they should have every power under the sun, to make our lifes safer. I get fed up each day hearing on the radio or in the papers, where there is always aggro as when this comes up, let them do there jobs properly. |

Stop and search where there are adequate grounds for suspicion remains a non-issue however there has to be suspicion you have committed a crime, IE not because they don't like the look of you but there is a very strong and valid expectation. The police do generally do a fine job, doesn't mean there aren't well documented issues. |

re: [Merged] Anti Terrorism Stop & Search Rejection
It should be noted that this isn't about stop and search generally. There are many other grounds for a search, but the police do have to have a reasonable suspicion that they will be finding something on the person such as drugs, proceeds of a crime, weapons, etc. It is only the anti-terrorism provisionns that are of concern by this ruling.

Section 44 stop & search powers suspended.

This isn't about stop and search generally per the rest of my post which you cut from your quote, and perhaps didn't read either. I'll reproduce it for you again for your convenience. Quote:
