server not recognised
I have my own lap top and my son has his and we share same internet connection through WI FI
To day i added on to my lap top a new e mail address (out look ) but if i try and set up an account on my sons lap top a message keeps coming back saying server not found.(pop.ntlworld.com) yet it finds the server ok on my lap top. Has anyone got any ideas as to why im getting this on my sons lap top and not mine Thanks |
Re: server not recognised
Probably a firewall stopping it, do you have one installed?? If you do try turning it off then trying again...if it then works you'll need to program in an exception for the POP port (110)
Before you ask how you do that it could be 1001 different ways dependant on if it's got a firewall and which one ;) |
Re: server not recognised
Tried again this time it found it, the prob. now is two things
1, For some reason mail can be sent but not received from my sons laptop. 2, My mail sent to my e mail address is going on to my sons lap top |
Re: server not recognised
Assuming you are on cable and in an ex-ntl area, ensure the sewttings for the email account on both computers is set as follows:
Incoming mail: pop.ntlworld.com Outgoing mail: smtp.ntlworld.com Sorry, I do not know the settings for virgin.net and ex-blueyonder |

If you are sharing the same account settings on both machines then it will be pot luck who gets the mail. Depends on who checks first. |
Re: server not recognised
Yes it is being set up on my username and password as out look asks for it , So i think it might be best if he set his e mail account up useing msn hot mail

Also the googlemail can be picked up in outlook or outlook express if you wish. Help pages will give you all the details on setting this up. |
Re: server not recognised
All done now , he set up msn hot mail , but while i was trying to get him set up on out look this happened .
To make sure the account was set up i tried sending an e mail from my lap top to my sons , then from his to mine . So i just typed the word " Hi " in as there was no point in a long letter just to see if it was up and running , because i was haveing trouble setting this up i sent a message with "Hi" in a few times , then i got a message in a box appear telling me i have a message sent to the spam folder so when i opened the spam folder the message was from windows x and said You idiot , stop sending mail with Hi in , It is against the law to send unsolisited mail and if you do it again you will be reported to virgin media . Well whats all that about. Anyway i deleted it and as i say an hot mail address has sorted him out. |
