Plane crashes in French Alps kills 150 people

Germanwings plane crash: Recovery operation resumes - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-32046250

So so sad. Really wonder what happened to cause the plane to drop so fast.

In the event of an emergency the plane will take you directly to the crash site..

Amazed you can find amusement in the sudden death of 150 people, including 12 school kids.......

It's something I always say when they're giving the safety briefing before take off. Really winds the wife up. I also laugh when they talk about the life jacket, with built in light and whistle.

Because when a plane goes down the usual end result is certain death, so why bother.

Very sad news, the A320 seems to be in the news to much these days.

Interesting stats:

Air-bus still have a good record compared to Boeing.

One of the pilots were locked out of the cockpit. :erm:

One of the pilots of the ill-fated Germanwings plane was locked out of the cockpit minutes before the aircraft plummeted into a remote region of the Alps, it was sensationally claimed last night.

Audio files taken from the black box voice recorder that was salvaged from the wreckage of the Airbus A320 reportedly indicate the pilot left the cockpit and could not re-enter.

The pilot is heard knocking lightly on the door of the cockpit before trying to 'smash the door down' when his colleague fails to answer, according to the New York Times.

Deliberately crashed by co-pilot?

If a pilot leaves the cockpit do they need to then be let in by the other co-pilot? Maybe the pilot left the cockpit then the other co-pilot is incapacitated for whatever reason and the other pilot can't get back in? Or he is locked out and the other pilot is trying to crash it? Weird one.

One would assume so.

The cockpit door is designed so that it can't be bust open, since 9/11

But the plane would most likely be on autopilot so unlikely it would crash into the Alps.

This gets my vote, it has happened before at least once with a far Eastern airline.

If it was suicide? why take innocents with you.

Should the door have a key code fitted on the outside so only the pilots know it and is changed on a monthly basis.

There was a BA pilot on 5 live earlier this morning and he said that there is a way back into the cockpit that only the staff know. He said he wouldnt elaborate how for obvious reasons. He said that the way back in is in case the the other pilot has some seizure or something like that but he went on to say that if the other pilot deliberately locks him out then there isnt a way back in.

Looking like a deliberate act by the co-pilot, according to what I'm hearing on Radio 5 Live.

I wonder what the co pilot said to make the pilot leave the cockpit in the first place

Osem 26-03-2015 12:30

Re: Plane crashes in French Alps kills 150 people

Apparently the pilot asked the co-pilot to take control while he went to the toilet and was then locked out. Whatever happened there's clearly going to be an urgent review of procedures but you have to wonder what can realistically be done to prevent this sort of thing.

At least it appears that the passengers were not aware of the extent of the problem until the very last minute so, if that's the case, their suffering would have been briefer than would otherwise have been the case. If there is any small crumb of comfort to be had for the bereaved maybe that's it. :(

I just can't process how horrible that is. That this was intentional and 'not a terrorist' attack. Some guy just decided to kill all those people?
