TiVo

How much more storage does a recorded HD program take over the corresponding SD version ? A rough 1 x X would do.

I have been told that HD takes 7 - 8 times more storage capacity than SD.

According to Virgin 1 hour of HD = 5 hours SD. There are technical reasons why it will vary from channel to channel so it's not quite that straightforward.

Agreed, for example a football/rugby match on Sky Sports HD Main will take more space than the same match on say SS HD Arena or Action.

It is down to the compression algorithms used on different channels.
