TiVo connection

Hello,

I'm thinking on having a TiVo box installed and have a question about how it is connected to the internet.

My Current set is :
A V+ box in the main room and a TV drive in another.
20mb broadband with a 4 port LinkSys router.
The four ports on the router are used up with, a PC hard wired, a hard wire connection going upstairs to another PC, a hard wired Netgear NAS, a hard wired Netgear media player.
I use the Wireless facility for two laptops, a del axim and an Amazon Kindle.

If the TiVo has to go into the router then I have no spare port. :(

Can anyone advise how the TiVo connects to the internet ?

Thank you for any guidence

Phil.

Yes it uses its own inbuilt modem.

Re: TiVo connection

TiVo has a built in modem that connects direct to the cable network via the standard coax cable into the back of the TiVo.

You don't need to connect it to your router.

You will only need a network connection on the back when latest TiVo update comes out if u want to make use of some of the new features like the iOS app for iPhone and iPad

Well they aren't connected to each other but the customers home network.

Yep via the router, switch or vm hub.

No idea who's responsibility it will be.. But you can bet a bunch of customers will complain they can't use the new functionality because they don't know how to rig up an Ethernet connection lol

Hello,

Thanks to all for clarifying that the TiVo does not need to be connected to my router. :)

Phil.
