Memory help required.
 

I brought some Kingston value ram KVR13N9S8/4 today to upgrade my aging desktop.
The motherboard is an Asus P5G41T-M and is currently running with an Intel Q9550 CPU & 2x2gb of Rendition DDR3 PC10600 1333mhz memory & runs fine with this.
The Kingston ram refuses to run, I have tried as single stick and dual stick in all combinations & nothing.
The board is capable of 8gb, I don't have another machine to try them in and the shop I got them from will be a right royal PITA as they don't like returns.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
I have reset BIOS, under-clocked the board to 266 & 233, voltages are fine.
At a loss.

Most computer shops don't want to give you refund. Unless he is a good person. But most are not.
I have to argue for a wireless adapter that won't running good on windiws 7 the computer shop guy didnt want to give refund and raising his voice at me..

How much memory you had before? 2x2= 4Gb?
And how much memory you got now?

Does it have the latest BIOS (29/09/2012) - despite the description for every update being "system stability", memory compatibility is often tweaked in BIOS updates.

Found a comment for this RAM on another site "not supported in ASUS P5G41T-M LX" - what the problem is with this particular RAM is unclear, as a different model Kingston 1333 4GB did work

Yea Bios is 0901 29/09/2012, gonna have to suck it an see :( with the shop.

Never know Kingston Value Ram to have a compatibility issue, it just works, which is why I chose it.

Have you tried bumping the memory voltage up to 1.65v? I seem to recall having a pair of sticks that needed that even though they're specs listed 1.5v a few years ago.

Went to 1.6v no further tho, may give that a go.

Unlikely to help. A memory stick rated at 1.5v will often work just fine at 1.3-1.4v and certainly should never need it bumped up.

Can you set manual timings, maybe take the speed down to 1066 - 1333 is an "OC" option for the G41 chipset.

A different board, but a key fact
KVR13N9S8/4 - SP is single ranked, while the one that gets more success - KVR1333D3N9/4G is dual ranked

If the chipset cannot accept 4GB per rank, then this RAM will never work in it - blimey, I remember my old AMD Irongate chipset that choked on 256MB single bank - it was safe with 128's of any type, but 256's had to be the rarer dual bank, and I thought modern chipsets had done away with that!

Noticed the single/dual issue earlier today. Have taken the ram back to supplier and used Crucials online tool to order some which according to them is compatible with this board.

wise words dude, I was just going to say the same thing. Although I have got proprietary ram in my new pcs, for the whole of my life up and till now I have always bought Crucial ram using their memory checker to ensure it is compatible and it going to work.

Although Crucial tell you that they guarantee that it's compatible, it doesn't give you any real certainty that it'll actually be compatible. They'll just take it back for a refund if it's not. Crucial's online tool will still claim RAM is "guaranteed compatible" even when it's an incorrect type that'll never work in your system.

Except it isn't always compatible and won't always work. Crucial, like most businesses, just take a gamble on it working enough of the time for them to still make a profit.

Got to be optimistic, can't be going through life with negativity towards vendors. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until it turns up and don't work, but I'm 99.99% sure it'll be fine :)

I wouldn't call it negativity, more like realism. When they've tried to sell me memory that is "guaranteed compatible" with my board despite my board's manufacturer explicitly telling them it is not, it's quite obvious that their guarantee is no more a guarantee than it is a wild guess. It's rare but does happen. Similarly, buy any old RAM of the same type as your existing and it'll almost always work, guarantee or no guarantee, sometimes it won't but again it's rare but does happen.

Memory turned up today, 2x4gb pc3-12800 1600mhz works fine but isnt as overclockable as the previous 2x2gb pc-10600 1333mhz.
Old I got a 15% OC, new I get about 5%.

I wouldn't cry about it, 8gb of ram has got to be better than 4gb
