Viva not leaving Freeview after all!

It had been thought that Viva would be leaving Freeview to make way for Spike TV.

Viva, however, will be staying on Freeview albeit for only two hours a day from 9 to 11am each morning.

I expect that Viacom have done this to keep hold of the EPG slot and will extend the hours when capacity becomes available.

I wonder where they got the capacity from?

Some of it has come from the spectrum previously used by analogue TV, but I think they have also squeezed more in by messing about with compression regimes.

There's speculation that they might be taking over the BT Sport slot in order to go full time again on Freeview.

Well, there's always the new Com 8 mux that's due to be deployed at some point. Supposed to be this year but you never know.

Although that's due to be a Freeview HD Mux, Motors TV used Come 7 to broadcast in SD, but would mean only HD capable sets could receive it.

Over on DS some posters are reporting that carriers are being transmitted on COM 8 so maybe something will come quicker than we think.

Motors TV actually occupies 2 slots on Freeview. A broadcast channel on Mux 7 & a Streamed "Connect" slot on Mux 5. So as long as you are on one of the 6 mux Freeview transmitters, a DVB-T2 reciever with a broadband connection will suffice.
