Netgear Router/TP Link/Nano Issues

Afternoon. Apologies if this issue covered elsewhere but have searched here and elsewhere and still unable to resolve.

Virgin Media Cable Broadband. VM modem to Netgear Wireless Router WGR614v6. Worked without issue for years. Needed to expand WIFI coverage so added some TP Link Powerline plugs and a new TP Link Wireless Nano Router.

All worked out of the box for a week with no config required. Now unable to connect to internet from any device via Wifi broadcast from either the original Netgear router or the new Nano router. Connects to either router with strong signal, just no internet connection. Nothing knowingly changed by to cause issue. So:

- VM Modem wired to PC all OK
- VM modem wired to Powerline wired to PC all OK
- VM modem wired to Netgear wireless router - devices connect but no internet access
- Modem to Netgear to Powerline to Nano wireless Nano router as above
- Modem to Powerline to Nano wireless router as above.

As no issues with wired connections direct from router or via Powerlines, Virgin modem and service must be OK.

Have tried all combinations of reboots and factory reset of Netgear router to no avail. From the Netgear Router Console 192.168.1.1 seems to momentarily recognize a connection but then 'Router Status' just returns zeroes.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers.

Re: Netgear Router/TP Link/Nano Issues

Firstly away from all this log in to MyVirginMedia and check if theres a self upgrade uptop relating to the broadband double. If theres a SuperHub upgrade then do it. The SuperHub has modem mode if the wifi on it doesn't meet your needs.

With regards to your issue. could you post results for

IPCONFIG /ALL

from a wireless device connected to the router wifi networks

Re: Netgear Router/TP Link/Nano Issues

Thanks for the rapid response. I will check to see if upgrade available. Is there any partic part of Ipconfig that would add value? I'm working on 'corporate' laptops today so will need to fire up a home PC (same symptoms tho). Have notice following on this one though if any use:

Tunnel adapter 6TO4 Adapter:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : cable.virginmedia.net
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft 6to4 Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

Thanks again.

Re: Netgear Router/TP Link/Nano Issues

check over your wifi network adapters got auto dhcp enabled..

Right-click "wifi adapter" from device manager or network adapters or open networks page from the tray and click Properties or change adapter settings

Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected.

double check your router settings are dynamic IP and dhcp enabled

Re: Netgear Router/TP Link/Nano Issues

Just to ask something obvious you are plugging the modem into the right port on the router and are you using a crossover or straight through patch lead? Just wanting to cover all areas off.

Re: Netgear Router/TP Link/Nano Issues

Yes all connections correct and DHCP/IP auto as expected. Just patch leads from modem>>router>>Powerline. I see my Netgear router is no longer supported. Whilst I don't think it is the issue (as same happens from modem>>>nano router), Virgin disagree and are couriering a new router today free of charge so will set up from scratch. Thanks to all for the advice. I may need more if the new one doesn't play ball.
