Anybody else getting new planned express series links recordings scheduled even though the series that you're watching is over( set new episodes only). In my case it is the series Alcatraz on Watch, it finished this Tuesday and it is showing me new recording in 2 weeks time?

Yep, got it with Modern Family, again link was New episodes only but it set up recordings despite series being finished.

My TiVo has been driving me mad for the past couple of days, there's been a message on my box saying ' call 150, there is no signal going to the box'.

We have contacted VM, but there general comment is, it will go right in a minute, or reboot, or its the weather.

Each we have switched over to Skysat, and the picture has been perfect, again today same thing phased and freezing pictures, same message, contacted VM and the attitude was crap, engineer is coming on Saturday to repair. Discount £1.50 what a joke.

It cannot be the weather VM have said, but surely they have these giant dishes that transmit the pictures down the cable for us. Any ideas what could be wrong - crackly picture then goes totally.

This is not a fault. The problem is that the episodes in question will have generic data and so Tivo doesn't know whether it's a new or old episode. Nearer the time it should fill-in with more accurate data and will then follow the rule set.

Had an episode of the Middle did not follow this rule set, series finished but upcoming episode this past Monday morning was set to record by series link, recorded it and you guessed it it was a repeat:confused:

The only thing i don't really like about the TiVo is the pishy peanut remote control, it's a disaster! One of the worst remote controls i've ever had, imo it's awkward to use and just doesn't "sit right" when you handle it, so come on Virgin, give us something decent to operate what really is a cracking set top box.

Re. Tivo remote. It has a tendency to fall off the arm of your chair/settee. It could do with a flatter bottom (underside). Google tivo qwerty remote.

Yes. Like I said. Whatever you have the SL set to, episodes with generic data will always be recorded.

Agreed which is a weakness of Tivo, never had this issue with V+ but Tivo schedules recording based in programme content I believe so even when set for “new only” on recordings, it will record a programme when there is only generic information available.

My son records a programme (Wipeout USA I think) for which there is only 1 new episode per week, but there are 3 lots of repeats per week as well and Tivo records every one despite “new Only” being selected. So every week we have to delete the repeats after they have been recorded or go into “Planned Recordings” and delete the scheduled future recordings.

A real nuisance I have to say and something Tivo and its programme content providers need to eliminate. I would propose an option for users to select “do not record if generic content programme information available” is added to Tivo recording settings and could be invoked for an individual series link to deal with the odd case like this.

I believe VM did do some work last year in reducing instances like this since they were certainly much more common from my perspective. However I now only have the 1 instance of repeat recordings I do not want as detailed above. I think there is a web site still available where you could actually log instances such as this, has been done in my case but problem still remains for me.

It has quite a flat top. Try putting it buttons down on the arm of your chair.

That would be because the V+ only ever recorded exactly what you told it to and didn't have the intelligence that Tivo does. An intelligence which, I admit, is only as good as the meta-data it uses. That said, would you rather it record an episode and it be a repeat or not record it and miss a new episode? :)

Oh I agree completely. But then I don't think the problem will ever be completely eliminated. I accept that no technology is perfect and some user-interaction will always be required.

No thanks or, unless it gets updated before broadcast, my Tivo would not record "A Town Called Eureka" next Wednesday as it currently only has generic data and yet I know it is a new episode.

The idea was a user option to activitate per series link not global so if you know your series link needs to record everything to capture a new episode then don't invoke it.

This whole issue comes down to Tivo trying to be too intelligent, sometimes the basic functions of V+ is all that users require and V+ never recorded repeats.
